Surya’s Maatran beats Ajith’s Billa 2 at Box Office
Maattrraan, like Billa 2, has opened up to mixed reviews from critics and audience but both the films starring A-list actors got a dream start at the Tamil Box Office. The Surya starrer recently released Tamil film has made an earth-shattering business in the opening weekend, thereby breaking the record of Ajith Kumar’s last movie, which was released on July 13.
Billa 2 had raked in around Rs 18.5 crore nett in the first weekend at the Domestic Box Office. Whereas, Surya’s Maattrraan has done a slightly better business in Tamil Nadu. The trader reports claim that the film has collected Rs 19.15 nett in the opening weekend in Tamil Nadu alone. In Kerala, Billa 2 has reportedly earned around Rs 1.4 crore and Maattrraan has done a magnificent business by collecting Rs. 2.86 crore in the God’s Own Country.
Reports add that Maattrraan has been overwhelming welcomed by Surya’s fans. While the occupancy for the movie in most of the theatres in Chennai witnessed around 90%, other regions, on average, had around 75% occupancy. However, in the International Box Office, Maattrraan has done good business in the US. Reports from other countries are awaited.
